Shine is a community of young Christians with the call to bring the light of Christ’s love to the world. At the foundation of this community is the grace-full love of Christ, a love that goes beyond all boundaries. Members of the Shine community are not the ‘all so-good people’, instead Shine community members are “the wretch saved by grace”, who are called to bear the good tidings of grace to the world. The call is to love, the way they are loved by God through Christ. That is why beside sunday services, bible studies and prayer meetings, Shine activities are frequently among the socially outcasted people, providing basic care and education for people in the poorest and darkest slums in Jakarta, the scavengers, the street children, and the mentally-ill people.

Shine community was established in 1995 by a fellowship called Christ Love Fellowship. The name of the fellowship was used until 2000 when the name “Shine” was introduced and accepted as the label for the ministry in Indonesia. To date Shine has established centers in the cities of Jakarta, Jogjakarta, and Surabaya, and is praying to establish at least 10 centers in the country by the year 2016.

The ministries by Shine in Jakarta are the harvest ministry for the street children in Jatinegara and Senen, and the charity ministry for the mentally-ill people in a mental institution in East Jakarta. In Jogjakarta, Shine supports an organization for the street children called “Rumah Impian” (the dreamhouse).
